Vivien L. Salmon, MHSA
Vivien has more than two decades of experience in the healthcare industry and has led a wide range of patient care accomplishments as the Senior Associate Director of the Emergency Department at Health and Hospitals - Harlem, New York City, an acute care and mental health facility, level I trauma center with over 75,000 annual ED visits.
Under her leadership, in 2013, Vivien facilitated the relocation of the Emergency Department state-of-the-art Emergency Department in the Mural Pavilion, a gate way and safe haven for many community constituents who are seeking care.
Vivien, has implemented numerous best practices that has improved the patient experience and patient flow. Facilitated the Implementation of Urgent Care and Early Care models in the Emergency Department at Health and Hospital – Harlem to reduce non-urgent patient walk-outs, patient turnaround time, and ED utilization for primary care needs, results: improvement in ED thru-put, revenue and patient experience scores; liaison between civil service and community agencies to enhance communication in the Emergency Department. Previously, Senior Associate Director, Emergency Department for 10 years at Woodhull Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York and implemented a new T-System, an enhanced charting solution to improve ED documentation.
In addition, to her busy work schedule, for over 40 years Vivien has been a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, New York, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, Senior Pastor. Vivien is Treasurer of the Grace Baptist Church and Trustee.
Vivien earned her bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Iona College, New Rochelle, New York and is currently a doctoral candidate at Walden University.
Vivien serves as the Board President for the Mount Vernon Day Care Center, President of the Westchester Region under the Empire State Federation of Women Clubs, Inc., Board Secretary of the Fulton Terrace Condo Association, Member of the NAACP-Mount Vernon Chapter, Life Member of the National Council of Negro Women Inc., – Westchester Chapter, Past President of New York Regional NAHSE (National Association of Health Services Executives) and former Board of Trustee for the Urban Resources Institute, Brooklyn, New York.
