Racial inequality is expressed in all dimensions of life. It is clear America has had enough, and silence is complicit. Where do you see your organization going from here?

During the heart of civil unrest in our country our organization made an effort to recognize that we have a long way to go to actually striving for a culture of equity and inclusion. There were several appointments of new executive leadership in the departments of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. NYU Langone implemented many workshops dedicated to building a more inclusive environment. They have motivated more people to participate in engagement surveys and mandatory training throughout the campus. Individual departments took it upon themselves to have their own conversations about inclusion and unconscious bias. A few months ago I was charged to lead some focus groups within our department this summer to share their stories and concerns about racism and the inequities many of us face. This led to me joining more workgroups that started over the pandemic. One group in particular that has done great work is focused on recognizing everyone's differences and cultural heritage.

What made you decide to pursue a career in healthcare?

I always loved the sciences in school. I pursued a BS degree in Biological Science as an undergrad. I initially had thoughts of going pre-med and then my interests changed. I worked a few years doing benchwork in a microbiology lab. I came to dislike that type of work and couldn't see myself in a lab any longer. I decided to pursue a Masters in Healthcare Administration after a conversation with a friend who was attending Hofstra University at the time. I now work for one of the top healthcare institutions in the country.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to watch new interesting series. The best shows are the ones you hear from word of mouth. Some of the shows I have been bingeing during the pandemic have been The Mandolorian, Cobra Kai, and Your Honor on Showtime. I am looking forward to the return of Snowfall and Better Call Saul.
